MEET OUR 2024 HONOREES

Marty Kemp, the First Lady of Georgia, is a native of Athens, and a passionate and deeply committed advocate against child sex trafficking. Her tireless work with the Grace Commission has brought about significant change in the fight against this heinous crime. Her advocacy resonates far beyond the borders of Georgia, inspiring others to join the cause. With grace and determination, she champions the rights and safety of vulnerable children, working relentlessly to eradicate child sex trafficking. First Lady Marty Kemp’s leadership serves as a beacon of hope and a powerful force for change, making her a revered figure in the fight against this grave injustice.

 

Rick Parker, a dedicated retiree from Athens Housing Authority. His unwavering commitment to youth development at Athens Housing Authority has left an indelible mark on countless lives. Rick’s journey with Family Connections-Communities In Schools began almost from its inception, illustrating his enduring passion for fostering strong family bonds and community connections. He once served as the board president, where his leadership skills shone brightly, driving positive change and innovative solutions. Rick Parker’s retirement may have marked the end of one chapter, but his legacy of support and dedication continues to inspire and uplift generations to come.

Michele Pearson Tucker, a distinguished businesswoman, serves as an Edward Jones Financial Advisor. She’s a devoted community leader known for her active engagement. Michele’s commitment to mentorship and youth development is evident through her involvement in Rites of Passage programs. As a co-founder of the Minority Business Nonprofit Association, she advocates for minority entrepreneurs’ success. Michele is also a dedicated Rotarian, emphasizing service above self. Her passion for fostering inclusivity shines through her leadership in organizing the Culture of Inclusion Summit. Michele Pearson Tucker is a trailblazer, driving positive change in her community and beyond, through her financial expertise and dedication to empowering others.

 

LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Tim Johnson, the founding Executive Director of Family Connection-Communities In Schools of Athens, has over 45 years of nonprofit experience. His journey began with college activism in the 1970s, leading to successful lobbying for Georgia’s landlord-tenant law reform and a state solar energy tax credit. Tim’s extensive career spans multiple nonprofit boards and government committees, serving organizations like the Carter Presidential Center. He introduced the 2-1-1 telephone service to Northeast Georgia and advocated for its nationwide use. As founder of the Athens Family Connection Partnership, he cultivated a collaborative approach for child and family improvement, earning him national recognition and numerous awards. Tim resides in Athens with his wife, Robin, and has five adult sons.
