Job Description

 

Family Connection-Communities In Schools of Athens (FC-CIS of Athens) is a not-for-profit organization in Athens, Georgia, established in 1991. We are a unique organization affiliated with both the Georgia Family Connection Partnership and Communities in Schools of Georgia. Through these networks, our vision is to create a quality of life in our community that supports and encourages the development and growth of all families and individuals. We facilitate collaboration among more than 100 partners for improved outcomes for children, youth, and families in order to achieve our mission of creating, maintaining, and nurturing a culturally diverse and collaborative community partnership. Our Communities In Schools Site Coordinators surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. Our 18 full-time Neighborhood Leaders are of the community, in the community, and work with the community to address issues related to poverty.

 

FC-CIS of Athens seeks an energetic, empathetic, and engaged leader for our Executive Director position. The Executive Director serves as chief executive officer of the organization; staff for the Board of Directors; coordinator of community strategic planning to improve results for children and families; and coordinator of the implementation of said plan.

 

  • Job Title: Executive Director 
  • Reports to: Board of Directors
  • Full-time, including evenings & weekends as needed 
  • Salary: $75,000-85,000 plus benefits package 
  • Anticipated Start Date: April 1, 2024 (anticipated overlap with retiring executive director whose final day is June 30, 2024)

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant non-profit experience with progressing responsibilities over time
  • Highly collaborative management style
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • A commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • A passion for the mission of FC-CIS of Athens

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, education, social work or a related field
  • Familiarity with Athens-Clarke County community
  • Experience with fundraising and board development
  • Experience building strong relationships and experience with community engagement
  • Familiarity with education, human service, and health systems

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Executive Director’s primary responsibilities will be to work with the Board of Directors to:

    1. promote and facilitate collaboration in the community to support improved outcomes for children and youth and their families; 
  • facilitate the implementation of new programs or services; 
  • ensure the fiscal viability of the organization; 
  • create and maintain a high-performance environment; 
  • ensure documentation, authorizations, reports, and records are completed and submitted according to nonprofit/organization management best practices and contractual, state and federal requirements; 
  • maintain knowledge of and communicate current local, state and federal policies, laws, trends, resources, and developments in the field of family and child well-being; and, 
  • oversee the implementation of effective marketing communications strategies. 

ACTIVITIES

The Executive Director’s responsibilities will be carried out through the following activities:

  • Promotes and facilitates collaboration in the community to support improved outcomes for children and youth and their families.
  • Creates and maintains effective working relationships with individuals, partner organizations and agencies; attends community meetings accordingly
  • Facilitates creation of community strategic and annual plans created to improve conditions for children and families in Athens-Clarke
  • Facilitates Strategic Action Teams (consisting of community partners) and other committees for ongoing assessment, adjustment, and implementation of the community strategic and annual plans for children and families; promotes the use of data-driven decision-making
  • Provides outreach and education to the community about the needs of children and families as well as programs, resources, and services available in health, welfare, and education

2) Facilitates the implementation of new programs or services created in support of the community plan for children and families. These programs could be housed within FC-CIS or partner agencies.

  • Supports the implementation of programs, as necessary, by community partners created on behalf of the community plan for children and families
  • Ensures collaborative programs are integrated, as appropriate, with and among partner agencies

3) Ensures fiscal viability of the organization.

  • Oversees the financial management system of the organization to ensure effectiveness
  • Works with treasurer and board finance committee to create and present annual budget to board for approval; provides monthly financial reports that allow staff and board to effectively monitor expenses and revenues
  • Ensures the completion of an annual independent audit
  • Provides support for Board one-on-one campaign to seek donations
  • Provides support for fundraising events
  • Applies for grant funding to support both the core operations and implementation of the community strategic and annual plans for children and families
  • Identifies and secures in-kind donations
  • Provides oversight of development efforts

4) Creates and maintains a high-performance environment characterized by positive leadership and a strong team.

  • Provides direct supervision to Administrative Manager, Neighborhood Leader Program Director, Development Director, and all Project Managers; ensure that policies and procedures are followed for all programs including their financial accounting, personnel, confidentiality and for all programs
  • Recruits, supervises, and supports interns and volunteers
  • Defines goals and/or required results at the beginning of performance period and gains acceptance of ideas by creating a shared vision
  • Communicates regularly with board members on progress toward defined goals and/or required results, providing specific feedback and initiating corrective action when defined goals and/or results are not met
  • Motivates board members to improve quantity and quality of work performed
  • Recognizes contributions and celebrates accomplishments
  • Provides orientation, training and development programs to staff
  • Coordinates, with appropriate board committee, orientation and development of new board members

5) Ensures documentation, authorizations, reports, and records are completed and submitted according to nonprofit/organization management best practices and contractual, state and federal requirements.

  • Completes all forms, documentation, and required reporting as required legally and contractually by funders
  • Reviews and submits all invoices consistent with accounting requirements
  • Maintains accurate personnel records

6) Maintains knowledge of and communicates current local, state and federal policies, laws, trends, resources, and developments in the field of family and child well-being.

  • Attends board, community, and state meetings as required to maintain knowledge
  • Represents the community at national, state, and regional meetings of Georgia Family Connection, Communities in Schools, and other relevant organizations
  • Reads, interprets, communicates and applies additional information that is relevant to the organization.

7) Oversees the implementation of effective marketing and communications strategies. 

  • Supervises the creation, implementation, and evaluation of a dynamic communications plan that includes a publication calendar for key organizational and program-level branding and messaging
  • Oversees the creation of collateral in support of the communications plan
  • Ensures that the FC-CIS website is updated, accurate, and reflects the values of the organization
